Selkirk Golf Club
Selkirk has one of the best 9 hole golf courses in Scotland. Selkirk’s most famous member was the late Dick Smith, who loved to practice on the Selkirk greens. The former Scottish Amateur, Walker Cup, and multi-international Champion praised the underrated and relatively undiscovered course.
While only a 9-holer, he said that the course had “a testing layout, fine quality hill turf fairways, and greens of a fine texture.” Any drifting overswing will likely land in heather, so the course still presents a test for golfers. Precision is paramount, and if you play 18 holes, then the course is over 5,500 yards.
A Historic And Scenic Course
The Selkirk golf club was built in 1924 by Willie Park. Jnr. Park was a legendary golf course architect responsible for over 170 courses spanning the UK, US, and Canada. The nine-hole course overlooks the nearby town of Selkirk and provides golfers with breathtaking views of the Linglie Hills and the sweeping hills of Ettrick and Yarrow.
The course will provide a challenge for players of all handicaps. You’ll need to stay focused to avoid hitting balls into the nearby gorse. The No. 8 hole is known as the “Long Hole.” You need to make two excellent shots to give yourself a short approach to the green, hidden by mounds of heather.
